Women’s Court Watch Project Annual Report 2006

The Women’s Court Watch of the Woman Abuse Council of Toronto (WomanACT) is a community research and education project that places volunteers in provincial criminal courts to observe and monitor woman abuse cases. The purpose of this initiative is to promote understanding, transparency and accountability within the provincial criminal courts with respect to the response to domestic violence cases.

One of the most problematic issues presented by these findings is the trend away from ensuring increasing consequences for repeat offenders within the domestic violence courts. The 2006 Annual Report makes recommendations to ensure domestic violence courts are successful in meeting their objectives and provide early intervention, support and advocacy for victims and collaboration between stakeholders to increase victim safety.
